The Scottish Enterprise Glasgow is the largest Local Enterprise Company within the Scottish Enterprise Network, the National body that promotes economic development. Its job in Glasgow is to improve business performance, develop people's skills and help develop, redevelop and improve the environment.







Scottish Enterprise National (SEN)

Scottish Enterprise National operates at a strategic level identifying and supporting projects that are of national importance. SEN gives strategic guidance to the LECs in line with Government policy and the priorities delivered from the Network Strategy. Where LECs require a national or international perspective they can call on SEN.







Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE)

Highlands and Islands Enterprise covers an area to the north and west of Scotland including all the west coast islands. Although the geographical area covered by HIE is immense, its comparatively low population means that it operates on a smaller scale than Scottish Enterprise. Their social remit allows them to support projects that enhance the quality of life in the Highlands and Islands rather than just on economic benefit grounds.







Local Enterprise Companies (LECs)

Local Enterprise Companies (LECs) Local Enterprise Companies work closely at a local level with organisations in their area either through projects and programmes devised and implemented by themselves, or local delivery of national programmes instigated by Scottish Enterprise National. LECs are geared to providing "local solutions to local problems" within the
National Strategy.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is the national body is Scotland responsible for the development, accreditation assessment and the certification of qualifications other than degrees. The authorities mission is to enhance education, training and life long learning in Scotland through the provision of high qualifications which meet the needs of the individual and society.

Sector Skills Alliance Scotland (SSAScot), aim is to assist in the development of a competitive Scotland through increasing the skills of the Scottish workforce by providing a focus for information exchange, development and promotional activities. In particular they seek to assist its National Training Organisation (NTO) members to play a significant role in the up skilling the Scottish workforce.

Careers Scotland

Careers Scotland is a new organisation with a new service. It was formed on 1 April 02 by bringing together all the careers service companies, education business partnerships, adult guidance networks and lifelong learning partnerships across Scotland. Careers Scotland offers a national, all age
careers guidance, information and placing service, as well as providing a vacancy handling service, encouraging education / industry links and promoting lifelong learning. It has a network of careers centres across the country.

With particular reference to Skillseekers, we work closely with all the local enterprise companies and licenced training suppliers to facilitate the access of young people to suitable training opportunities, whether Get Ready for Work, employed status careerships or Modern Apprenticeships.







SQMS - Scottish Quality Management system

SQMS is a quality management system, which can be used to measure and improve the quality of training and associated activities. Although it has been designed specifically for the Scottish education and training market it is now being used in many countries such as Poland, Ireland and Australia. The system brings together the quality requirements of a number of key national agencies - Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, The Scottish Executive and the Scottish Qualifications Authority. SQMS shows links to BS EN ISO 9000, Investors in People and Total Quality Management.







SUFI - Scottish University for Industry

For industry The Scottish University for Industry (SUfI) has been established to spearhead this learning revolution, connecting education and training with business and labour market demand. In doing so, it will work with partners throughout the learning and business communities. SUFI is about changing attitudes to learning demands, providing a radical new approach to the learning sector itself - one which focuses more directly on the needs of employers, learners and the Scottish economy, given the rapidly changing global environment in which it must compete.
